About

Mike Scott

I picked up a camera before I ever got in the water, but diving changed everything. Since my first dive in 2010, I’ve been drawn deeper into documenting the natural world, both above the surface and below it.

Based in West Palm Beach, I shoot across South Florida and beyond, from local wetlands and coastlines to open ocean dive sites around the world. My subjects range from shorebirds and wading birds to sharks. Eighteen species and counting.

This work is about more than photography. It’s about showing these animals as they actually are, so the case for protecting them makes itself.

Genesis

I met Genesis on a dance floor at our local country western bar, and I’ve been grateful for that night ever since. I proposed to her at Inspiration Point in Grand Teton National Park, surrounded by the kind of landscape we both love.

She’s been my travel partner, my birding companion, and my favorite person to share a trail with. Most of the “we” in these field notes is her. She’s recently picked up a camera too, and knowing her, she won’t be a beginner for long.

“But then… finally, you’re underwater and you see the thing that you were taught your whole life to fear… and it’s perfect… and it doesn’t want to hurt you… and it’s the most beautiful thing you have ever seen… and your whole world changes.” – Rob Stewart, Sharkwater
